An evening of sublime compositions in Nieuwe Kerk. The most beautiful chamber music by Shostakovich and Brahms, performed by an exceptional selection of string players.

This evening, Nieuwe Kerk will be awash in divine notes, staged in an intimate setting. The audience will be seated around the ensemble, making the experience even more special. Enjoy heavenly chamber music, performed by a selection of string players from the Residentie Orkest. The ensemble will perform two compositions by two grand masters, Brahms and Shostakovich.

With his String Quartet No.7, Dmitri Shostakovich composed a compact but powerful work, dedicated to his deceased first wife, Nina. Tenderness is combined with emotional intensity, and dance-like elements with an underlying tension. Followed by Johannes Brahm’s famous String Sextet No.6:  lyrical, romantic, brooding and warm with brilliant cello lines, it is a perennial favourite in the repertoire of string ensembles.
