Amare proudly presents a spectacular eye-catcher: the monumental work of art titled Poppy, by the internationally acclaimed artist Zoro Feigl. This impressive work, which reminds of a gigantic dancing poppy flower, can be admired in Amare’s entrance hall until 31 July.

Presenting visual art works is a regular part of Amare’s freely accessible programme offered in its public areas, known as Open Amare. Works presented previously include, for instance, the installation Aircilla by Gemma Luz Bosch. Everyone is welcome to come admire Poppy.

Dancing poppy
Poppy is a monumental work whose elegant movements are enchanting. The work conjures up the image of a poppy flower, which only reveals itself when the work is set into motion. It is impossible not to stop and look up at it. This captivating art work is part of Feigl’s famous ‘Flow’ series, and has also been on show at for instance Stedelijk Museum Schiedam, Verbeke Foundation Belgium, and De Elektriciteitsfabriek Den Haag. Different versions of the work have been shown at venues that include FILE Sao Paulo in Brazil and the Busan Biennale in Korea.

Zoro Feigl: an artist dedicated to creating movement
Zoro Feigl (1983, Amsterdam) is an internationally acclaimed artist whose installations appear to come to life. His materials dance and turn and together form a unique ensemble. Feigl’s work has been exhibited in renowned museums and institutions all around the world, including the Mori Art Museum Tokyo, SPACE Pittsburgh USA, and the National Art Museum of China.

Artist Zoro Feigl: “Poppy was conceived while watching a sail flapping in the wind. Following various experiments, the work just continued to become bigger. The art work invites the spectator to stand still for a moment and to look up. Amare is very much a place where people take the time to observe what’s around them. In all its simplicity, this work is very disarming, which is something that appeals to lots of people, and all sorts of people.”

Open Amare
As an international platform for music and dance in The Hague, we wish to offer everyone an accessible and inspiring place. Besides a varied programme of concerts and performances, we also offer a wide range of freely accessible activities in our public areas. You can enjoy dance workshops, (lunch) concerts, exhibitions and much more, all under the heading of Open Amare.

Amare’s public space is for and of the city, and provides a stage for the creative energies that pulse throughout the city of The Hague. We provide lots of room for programmes and installations, but also literally offer room for people to simply hang out, and to undertake their own initiatives. Zoro Feigl’s Poppy installation emphasises our increasing focus on installations as part of Open Amare.

Leontien Wiering, director of Amare: "We find Zoro Feigl’s installation inspiring because it transforms the space and induces a special experience in our visitors. And that’s what Amare is all about: stimulating the senses and expanding one’s view. 'Poppy' is the perfect embodiment of this vision. We are proud and pleased to present Zoro Feigl’s work to our visitors."
