A staged family concert for young visitors from 5 to 105 years old.
The Oorkaan Ensemble invites a special guest. Together, they take inspiration from the enchanting and hypnotizing Indonesian gamelan music. They wear their noses with appropriate pride, as contemporary expression of the famous Indonesian Panakawan jesters. Musical wit and poetic sound go hand in hand in this wonderful staged concert.
The Oorkaan Ensemble
In 2021, on the occasion of its 20th anniversary, Oorkaan presented its own ensemble, with four multi-talented, sparkling young musicians of international top level. A beautiful sublimation of everything Oorkaan has built up in 20 years of artistic signature and playing style. Harpist Michela Zanoni, clarinetist Michele Mazzini, bayanist Robbrecht Van Cauwenberghe and percussionist Veysel Dzhesur together form the Oorkaan Ensemble.
They are trained according to the Oorkaan method to become theatrical performing musicians. They play all music by heart and thus create space for theatrical performance. The repertoire they play has a double mission: to introduce as many small and large ears as possible to music performed live and to break open the canon with global classical music.

They give as many big and small ears as possible the chance to discover the infinite world of music. Classical music from past and present, and from all over the world, is performed in theatrical and surprising ways.
Music belongs to everyone. You can understand music without saying a word. It might move, inspire or annoy you, but it never leaves you untouched. Music creates scope for imagination and wonder. And when a group of (young) people experience a live concert together, then music connects.
Productions from Oorkaan perform worldwide in (concert)halls and festivals, like Royal Concertgebouw, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Konzerthaus Wien, BAM New York, A.S.K. Shanghai, RomaEuropa festival, and on top of that: schools throughout the Netherlands.
