Under our roof: Royal Conservatoire
The Royal Conservatoire trains musicians and dancers to the highest possible artistic standard. Founded in 1826, it is the oldest conservatory in the Netherlands. The curriculum combines experiment and innovation with tradition and craftsmanship and students are taught by leading international musicians and dancers.
The Royal Conservatoire’s student population comprises more than fifty nationalities. Every year the school also invites numerous guest lecturers from around the world to give lectures and provide master classes. The result is a melting pot of artistic ideas and influences. The Royal Conservatoire is renowned for its extraordinary educational projects in which students gain practical experience in collaborative ventures with prestigious companies, venues and educational institutions worldwide. These projects culminate in numerous outstanding concerts and productions. Every performance at the Royal Conservatoire is an integral part of the students’ learning process and the public are regularly welcome to attend.
The Royal Conservatoire offers Bachelor and Master programmes of higher professional education in Art of Sound, ArtScience, Composition, Dance, Conducting, Music in Education, Jazz, Classical Music, Music Theory, Early Music, Sonology and Vocal Studies. Children with an affinity for music and dance can also attend the Royal Conservatoire from a very young age in the Young KC (music) or the Dance department. In the School for Young Talent, the students combine regular schooling with a special programme in music or dance. The Royal Conservatoire and the Royal Academy of Art together form the University of the Arts The Hague.
