The choir dedicates itself to a wide repertoire from renaissance to contemporary. Mainly through its interpretation of modern choral music, the choir has made a name for itself and the reputation of a 'sound laboratory'. The choir's singers have specialized in special vocal skills, such as intonation of quarter tones and overtone singing, and regularly delve into the secrets of the ancient singing traditions of their native Latvia.

Since 1992, the Latvian Radio Choir has been led by two conductors: chief conductor and artistic director is Sigvards Klava, who is assisted by a second conductor, Kaspars Putnins. An important objective of the choir is to support Latvian composers, whom they want to present in their international performances all over the world. The choir was awarded the prize of the International Rostrum of Composers by the Unesco International Music Council for its recordings of compositions by Eriks Esenvalds, Kristaps Petersons and Martins Vilums. The CD recording of Arvo Pärts Adam's Lament received a Grammy award in 2014.
