After being immersed in the set for a few songs, two things are etched in stone: Alela Diane's crystal-clear angelic voice and the humor with which she consistently returns to the earthly realms of the common people, where we eagerly await more from her.
That Alela Diane has an affinity for antiques is evident in the name of her latest album. Looking Glass is a reference to the book Through the Looking Glass from 1871 by Lewis Carroll. And there’s a deeper meaning behind this. After the book was released, the term Looking Glass acquired a dual meaning. In addition to a mirror, it now also means ‘the opposite of what is normal and expected.’ In the context of Diane’s album, Looking Glass refers to both meanings of the word, serving as a portal between the past and the future and as a reflection of everything in between.
