3500 visitors celebrate Shiva Festival in Amare
27 February 2025, retrospect
On Sunday 23 February, Amare opened its doors for the Hindu Shiva Festival for the first time. Many enthusiastic visitors came along for the celebration of Maha Shivratri, or ‘The Great Night of Shiva’. Look back on the successful event with the photos!
Shiva is one of the most important deities in Hinduism and is revered as the god of transformation, wisdom and protection. This year the Shiva Festival, which is celebrated worldwide during Maha Shivratri, was all about coming together, solidarity and awareness in The Hague. The event was made possible by Chatak Matak, Lotus Group, Women Society and Hart voor Den Haag and facilitated by Amare as part of the Open Amare programme. The festival showed how peaceful and unifying Maha Shivratri can be, and made this tradition accessible to everyone.
Young and old enjoyed a rich programme with (free) activities and performances. Upon arrival, visitors were welcomed by the ladies of miss Indian Beauty and Women Society with their breathtaking, festival-themed inspired clothing and appearance. In the public space spectacular dance acts, compelling shows, impressive performances and live concerts were presented. In the Danstheater world-class artists brought a unique musical journey during the exclusive Shiva piano concerts. Thanks to the authentic and traditionally prepared dishes of Chatak Matak, everyone returned home with a full stomach.
