WiFi network publicroam
Amare has switched per June 2024 to an improved public Wi-Fi network: publicroam. Publicroam offers an easy, seamless and secure Wi-Fi connection.
Publicroam offers safe access to Wi-Fi. You need to create an account just once, and after that your device will connect automatically wherever publicroam is offered, also outside Amare. Publicroam is available in many places throughout the Netherlands, and is free to use.
Why do we offer Wi-Fi through publicroam?
- Security: We find it important to offer our visitors a secure Wi-Fi connection. Since publicroam works with a personal account, you are safe from eavesdropping.
- Ease: Your device connects automatically, in many locations in the country. The first time requires a bit of effort, but after that you never need to log in again.
- Privacy: Your privacy is ensured. You can surf the web safely and anonymously.
How does it work? Register through 2 steps:
- Step 1: create an account
To do so, you always have to use your mobile phone and phone number.
The most convenient way is to download the mobile app. You can do so at home on your own wifi or with a 3G or 4G network. To do so, go to publicroam.nl. Via this website you can download the app. You create an account via the app and consequently, your smartphone will connect automatically to publicroam when you are in Amare.
If you don’t want to use the app, then you have two options:
1. Register via the website: Go to publicroam.nl and click on the link 'Receive your login information via SMS', or;
2. Register via SMS: Send an SMS with the text publicroam to +31 970 10 260 261. You will then receive the login information via SMS.
After creating your account, you can also connect with a laptop or tablet: see Step 2.
- Step 2: connect your device with Wi-Fi
With the publicroam app installed, a telephone will automatically connect to Wi-Fi when you are in Amare. You don’t need to do anything.
If you want to connect a device without using the app, for instance a tablet or laptop, follow these steps:
For an iPhone, iPad, MacBook or Windows laptop:
1. Go to the Wi-Fi settings, and choose ‘publicroam’.
2. Enter your username and password.
3. Check and accept the certificate. Click on ‘connect’.
For an Android phone or Chromebook laptop:
1. Go to the Wi-Fi settings and choose ‘publicroam’.
2. Enter the information as required below.

What if you can’t make it work?
Publicroam is a new service, which might take some getting used to. Amare has decided to introduce publicroam because we find it important to provide security. Registration requires a bit of effort, but you only need to do so once. Also see the explanation above. If you can’t make it work, then have a look at publicroam.nl/support. Here you will find an explanation per type of device.
Frequently asked questions
Why am I asked to provide a mobile 06 number?
Publicroam provides access to hundreds of Wi-Fi networks. Your 06 number is registered to prevent misuse. The account is personal based on your unique 06-number.
How does publicroam deal with personal data?
Publicroam treats all personal data confidentially. The data are only used to provide the service, and not for any other purposes. So no ads.
I don't have a data bundle subscription so I cannot connect to the internet to download the app. How can I create an account in Amare?
You can use SMS to register. Or you can download the publicroam app at another moment, for instance at home or somewhere else with accessible Wi-Fi.
I don't have a mobile phone or SMS, but I would still like to connect with a tablet or laptop. What should I do?
Unfortunately, you cannot use publicroam in that case. An account is personal based on a unique 06-number. Maybe you could ask someone near you to make an account for you.
Where do I find my Wi-Fi login information?
This information is provided in the publicroam app. Or you received the information in an SMS message.
