Leading composer celebrates her fiftieth birthday

Composer, pianist and conductor Lera Auerbach is turning 50, which calls for a celebration! Auerbach plays Mozart and conducts her own Fifth Symphony Paradise Lost. A premiere for the Netherlands.

This concert is part of the Lera Auerbach Festival.

Programme

One Minute Symphony
Mozart Pianoconcert nr. 20
Auerbach Symfonie nr. 5 ‘Paradise Lost’ (Dutch première)

The Residentie Orkest and contemporary music have been going together for years. At this concert Lera Auerbach will conduct her Fifth Symphony Paradise Lost. A premiere for the Netherlands. Auerbach is one of the great composers of our time and her oeuvre includes many symphony concertos, operas, ballets, string quartets, violin and piano works and choirs. She shone in the great halls of the world. How special that she celebrates her fiftieth birthday in The Hague!

Tonight's concert is part of the multi-day Lera Auerbach Festival. A big party together with the Nederlands Kamerkoor, New European Ensemble, Royal Conservatory of The Hague, Festival Dag in de Branding, Amare and the Residentie Orkest. From behind the grand piano, Lera Auerbach herself conducts Mozart's dramatic Piano Concerto No. 20, just as the great master did. This is followed by the Dutch premiere of her own Symphony no. 5, about Adam and Eve with the added title Paradise Lost. After a funeral march for lost paradises, harp, glockenspiel and vibraphone evoke an unreal, magical alternate world.
