The Estonian conductor Tõnu Kaljuste was raised with choral music. In 1974 he took over the Ellerhein Chamber Choir from his father, which he transformed into the professional Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir. He was chief conductor there until 2001 and wrote history with recordings of works by Estonian composers such as Arvo Pärt, Erkki-Sven Tüür and Veljo Tormis.
