This evening, the Concertzaal will again resound to the world famous ‘hallelujah’. Celebrate warmth and light during the darkest days of the year with Handel’s Messiah

Programme

Handel Messiah

Join the Residentie Orkest for this brand-new tradition during the cosiest time of the year. Starting this year, the orchestra will join forces with one of The Hague’s many outstanding choirs for a Christmas performance of George Frideric Handel’s Messiah. This year, it’s with the Koninklijke Zangvereniging Excelsior, active since 1881. They will sing the Christian story of the appearance, the suffering, the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Comforting, celebratory, poignant and – during the famous Hallelujah – liberating.

Handel’s oratorio shows how timeless music can be adapted to the tastes and means of another age, without losing the piece’s heart. You will notice that again today, with the amazing conductor Chloe Rooke presiding. She will conduct both the orchestra and a quartet of young top singers: soprano Nikki Treurniet, mezzo soprano Nina van Essen, tenor Antonin Rondepierre, and baritone Raoul Steffani. It’s the launch of a wonderful tradition!
