A unique opportunity to experience the variety and expressiveness of chamber music through a unique combination of strings and wind. Tonight, every instrument is a star.

Programme

Mozart Pianokwintet
Spohr Nonet

Chamber music at its best: an intimate concert in which strings and wind shine together in two musical masterworks. Guests are seated around the ensemble, allowing them to experience the music from up close. Musicians of the Residentie Orkest bring Mozart’s Piano Quintet and Spohr’s Nonet to life in a programme that celebrates colour and virtuosity. The two works present a fascinating contrast: the classic elegance and refinement of Mozart versus the romantic warmth and expressiveness of Spohr.

Cloakroom and drink
Cloakroom and an intermission drink are included. If the event does not have an intermission, you will receive the drink afterwards.

Mozart’s Piano Quintet, composed in 1784 on the eve of his most creative period, is one of his most remarkable works. In fact, he himself described it as “the best thing I have written in my life”, although perhaps he should have said “my life so far”! Regardless, this piece – written for piano, oboe, clarinet, horn and bassoon – combines sumptuous melodies with brilliant instrumentation. Each instrument is given the opportunity to shine, while the piano brings everything together into a warm, harmonious whole. The programme continues with Nonet, a piece by the lesser-known but no less fascinating composer Louis Spohr: a masterpiece of chamber musical dialogue, in which strings and wind alternately support and challenge each other with sophisticated melodies and dazzling rhythms.

New in season 25/26: The Residentie Orkest is performing this concert in a 360° setup.
