Our most beloved Easter tradition: the performance of Bach’s St Matthew Passion, a gripping masterpiece about suffering, betrayal and sacrifice.

Programme

Bach Matthäus Passion

It is a story that grips and transports audiences time and time again: the St Matthew Passion. Experience the final days of Jesus Christ, following him through betrayal, suffering, forgiveness and redemption. Johann Sebastian Bach’s St Matthew Passion is an emotional tribute that the Residentie Orkest performs every year in the week leading up to Easter. It is one of the composer’s longest and most complex pieces, full of symbolism and musical rapture.

Cloakroom and drink
Cloakroom and an intermission drink are included. If the event does not have an intermission, you will receive the drink afterwards.

Fourteen stages of the Cross, twelve apostles, seven days of creation, four evangelists and a holy trinity. The story of the final days of the Son of God offers layers upon layers of interpretation and a bottomless well of wonder. Bach wrote music with an incredible sense of suspense, in which the choir and the orchestra collaborate, complement and challenge each other. Peter Dijkstra leads a must-hear assemblage consisting of a full cast of star soloists, the Netherlands Chamber Choir and the boys’ voices of the Haags Matrozenkoor.
