Anna Clyne’s cello concert Dance features alongside Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony. One contemporary, one classic, but both presenting a fascinating interplay of lyricism and energy.

Programme

One Minute Symphony
Mozart Ouverture ‘Le nozze di Figaro’
Clyne Dance for cello and orchestra (Nederlandse première)
Beethoven Symfonie nr. 6 ‘Pastorale’

Tonight is your chance to hear the Dutch premiere of Dance, the highly-rated cello concert by British composer Anna Clyne. As one of the most frequently performed contemporary composers, Clyne drew inspiration form the mystical verse of the Persian poet Rumi. The five movements that make up the piece, focusing on themes such as loss, love and acceptance, showcase her ability to translate profound human emotions into music. Cellist Camille Thomas does full justice to the poetic power of the piece.

Cloakroom and drink
Cloakroom and an intermission drink are included. If the event does not have an intermission, you will receive the drink afterwards.

Alongside Clyne’s magical tones stands Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6, also known as the Pastoral Symphony. This symphony is an ode to the peace and beauty of nature, and marks a milestone in the classical repertoire. Beethoven evokes emotions, and shows that the sublime can be found in serenity and simplicity as well. This concert marks the debut in the Residentie Orkest of Austrian conductor David Danzmayr, known for his rigorous and expressive approach. Together, Clyne’s introspective Dance and Beethoven’s lively Pastoral Symphony form a programme that centres on reflection and the power of nature.
