Let Sibelius transport you to Finland’s natural vistas, and revel in Bruckner’s symphonic grandeur in this spectacular musical season finale.

Programme

One Minute Symphony
Sibelius Vioolconcert
Bruckner Symfonie nr. 6

Grand | Monumental | Ecstatic

The Residentie Orkest concludes the season with an impressive two-piece performance in Amare. Jean Sibelius’s Violin Concerto vividly evokes Finland’s natural vistas: you can see the mist hanging over dark lakes, hear the echoes of the deep forests and feel the cold of the rugged landscape in every note of this spine-chillingly beautiful concert. Artist in residence Bomsori Kim’s masterful violin performance brings the slow rhythms of nature to life, overseen by chief conductor Jun Märkl.

Following this is Anton Bruckner’s Symphony No. 6, a masterpiece that has been described as a cathedral of sound. Bruckner built his music with an almost architectural precision: monumental chords, lengthy lines and a deeply moving spiritual undercurrent, forming a whole that thrusts straight up into the infinite sky. Jun Märkl possesses an unparalleled ability to convey the grandeur and depth of this work. In short, this is a worthy finale to a splendid season – one that brings together nature, mysticism and musical architecture.
