In this double bill on Sunday afternoon in the Nieuwe Kerk during the Open House event, the New European Ensemble and Marmoucha Orchestra will offer a preview of their scheduled concerts.

New European Ensemble
Three musicians of the New European Ensemble will treat the audience to a series of highlights for the upcoming season in Amare. They will perform short works by the composers Jürg Frey, Arvo Pärt, Mihkel Kerem and Maurice Ravel.

It promises to be a season to relish. On 25 September, the New European Ensemble presents a composer’s portrait of Jürg Frey, the Swiss ‘master of silence’, in the Nieuwe Kerk. The music theatre performance 1984 by Mihkel Kerem will premiere on 28 October in Amare, and on 29 January the ensemble will present a tribute to Maurice Ravel in the Nieuwe Kerk. Finally, the Nieuwe Kerk will host a wide-ranging programme with the chamber music of Arvo Pärt on 24 March.

Marmoucha Orchestra
Musically, the Marmoucha Orchestra covers the region of North Africa, the Middle East and the Mediterranean. Eastern melodies are combined with improvised jazz music and western sounds. The result is a rhythmical adventure that spans musical traditions from Morocco to Iran. The Arabic ud and western piano together weave an intriguing web of sounds.

Visit the Open House for a preview of this musical melting pot. A selection of pieces by the Marmoucha Orchestra will whisk you off on a journey featuring sounds from Berber, Arabic, African and western musical traditions.

The concert is free, but we do ask that you reserve a ticket in advance.
