Royal Couple attends the festive handover of Amare

On Thursday evening, 2 September, Amare had some very special visitors! His Royal Highness King Willem-Alexander and Her Majesty Queen Máxima attended the festive handover of Amare. The City of The Hague on this evening formally handed over Amare to its four occupants: Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT), the Residentie Orkest Den Haag, the Royal Conservatoire and Stichting Amare.

The King and Queen toured the new building, attending several rehearsals and taking a peek behind the scenes of the Danstheater. After that they attended the festive programme in the Concertzaal, where the Residentie Orkest (conducted by chief conductor Anja Bihlmaier) performed new work, composed by students of the Royal Conservatoire. This concert was accompanied by a timelapse video showing the process of Amare’s construction. Amare’s business director, Leontien Wiering, welcomed the guests in the Concertzaal, after which project director Harold van Steeg of Cadanz building consortium addressed the audience, followed by alderperson Anne Mulder on behalf of the City of The Hague and Sven Arne Tepl on behalf of the Residentie Orkest.

Besides the King and Queen Máxima and their company, the audience consisted of city residents from various The Hague neighbourhoods, as well as representatives of the City of The Hague, Cadanz construction consortium, NOAHH and JCAU architectural offices, Nederlands Dans Theater, Royal Conservatoire, Residentie Orkest and Stichting Amare.
