Photo exposition shows the evolution of LOVETRAIN2020
For five years, photographer Julia Gat captured the many transformations of the dance piece LOVETRAIN2020, which will soon be performed in Amare. You can admire an exhibition of her photos on the Kunstenplein until 14 March.
LOVETRAIN2020, by Emanuel Gat Dance, was created during the corona period. Now, Amare, together with Holland Dance Festival and NDT, is bringing this exuberant, physical group dance on the music of Tears for Fears to The Hague on 13 and 14 March. Through her lens, the official photographer of Emanuel Gat Dance, Julia Gat, captured the many transformations of LOVETRAIN2020 over the years. The result will be on display on the Kunstenplein in Amare until 14 March and is open to all as a part of the Open Amare programme.
About Photographing LOVETRAIN2020
Since 2020, photographer Julia Gat has been documenting LOVETRAIN2020, a dance performance choreographed by her father, Emanuel Gat. Through her lens, she captures the many transformations of this work — different dancers, evolving interpretations, and the dynamic interplay between movement, sound, and light. As the official photographer of Emanuel Gat Dance, Julia has followed the company’s journey for nearly a decade, preserving the fleeting moments that define each performance.
This exhibition presents a selection of images taken over five years, revealing LOVETRAIN2020 as a living, ever-changing piece. Set to the music of Tears for Fears, the performance pulses with the utopic energy and rhythmic intensity of the 1980s. Julia’s photographs distill these ephemeral instances into still images, offering a glimpse into the deep dialogue between choreography and photography—between movement and memory.
