About the Februari Festival
About the festival
The Februari Festival is an annual festival that focuses on a different classical composer every year. Over the course of five festive days, young top talents share the stage with national and international world-class musicians. With a presenter offering informal commentary on and information about the music, as well as through lectures, films and theatre performances, visitors become intimately acquainted with the person behind the composer.
The music
In addition to well-known pieces, the Februari Festival also presents works that are rarely or never performed, alongside works by the featured composer’s contemporaries. Through personal anecdotes, quotes from letters and reviews by the critics of the day, we paint a lively portrait of the times in which the composer lived.
Young talents
A unique aspect of the Februari Festival is how it combines the contagious eagerness of a new generation of musicians with the artistic excellence of seasoned performers. Together, the musicians rehearse in a relaxed and inspiring atmosphere, resulting in a spectacular performance on the festival stage.
Partners
Our partners are Amare’s cohabitants, the Royal Conservatoire and Residentie Orkest. The musicians of these organisations regularly collaborate to offer masterclasses and perform concerts during the festival. Thus, in an earlier edition, violinist Antje Weithaas presided over a rendition of Beethoven’s Fourth Symphony.
