To celebrate the new year, we call on some of opera’s greatest hits. Enjoy unparallelled voices in pieces by the great masters: Giuseppe Verdi, Giacomo Puccini, Richard Strauss and Johann Strauss. True Italian passion combined with drama, delicacy and festive Viennese polka fireworks. Tonight, the soloists and the Residentie Orkest are adding extra fizz to the champagne.

The richness of the arias, the contrasts in the vocal registers, the expressive melodies: the Italian grandmasters of opera knew how to keep audiences riveted to their seats. Which is precisely why we invited the loveliest, most dramatic opera voice that England has to offer to The Hague: the profusive expressiveness of soprano Claire Rutters is unforgettable. The orchestra is also excited to welcome Leslie Suganandarajah, chief conductor of the Salzburg Landtheater, for the first time. Suganandarajah is a natural communicator who imbues his performances with great charisma, energy and sensitivity, both on the symphonic and the operatic stage. There’s no better way to kickstart the new year!
