From Here On

From Here On is an initiative by Gecko and Good Chance. Gecko uses play and creativity to make theatre about current topics. Good Chance uses theatre to introduce people to the world. You may know the theatre makers from the arrival of the giant child Little Amal in The Hague, on her way from Syria to the United Kingdom.

Growing up in peace, growing up in safety, is important to all children. Children who live in a war zone do not grow up in peace. It is not always safe for them. What do safe places mean in these troubled times? How can you provide safe places? What are safe places? Who provides these safe places?

From Here On marks the 85th anniversary of the Kindertransport, when nearly 10,000 Jewish children were given safe passage to the UK from Nazi-occupied Europe. It is an artistic remembrance of that history, as well as an urgent call for empathy and action for displaced young people in the present.

Good Chance and Gecko work together with Safe Passage International. In doing so, From Here On supports their urgent call for a compassionate refugee system: to open safe routes and to ensure family reunification for unaccompanied children from across the world, including through their three current region-specific projects for children in Afghanistan, Gaza and Ukraine.

Stories of Change - Roos Meijer & band

The sincerity of Roos Meijer’s alt-folk finds a way to the heart. Roos takes inspiration for her music from societal issues and unheard voices of people around the world. Her EP ‘Maktub’ tells the real stories of people she met who have had to seek refuge from war, and her album ‘Why Don’t We Give It A Try?’ was inspired by conversations she had with change-makers. Live she leaves a great impression with her dynamic set, special stories, distinctive writing style and pure performance.

Meijer will play a number of songs from her album Stories of Change. Each song on that album is inspired by an interview with a social goals changemaker. Like the song ‘To Be Free’ for which she interviewed Aleaddin Janid who is committed to education for refugee children in Greece and a safe house for Northern Syrian orphans.

Leila Prnjavorac – making a difference

Leila Prnjavorac talks (in Dutch) to Roos Meijer, participants of From Here On and Pamela Sturhoofd and Jessica van Tijn, the documentary makers of Truus' Children. Where did they get their courage from? And what can we learn from them about making a difference in this world, either big or small?
