With its Prinsjesdag Concert, the Residentie Orkest embraces a new musical season with festive, imaginative and romantic music.

Programme

Saint-Saëns Danse macabre
Wieniawski Fantaisie brillante op thema’s uit Gounods Faust
Tsjaikovski Suite ‘Het Zwanenmeer’

The city of The Hague celebrates Prinsjesdag (Princes’ Day) and the Residentie Orkest is happy to contribute! This concert marks the start of a new and vibrant season and introduces the new chief conductor Jun Märkl and the new artist-in-residence Bomsori Kim. Especially for this festive occasion, an expressive and fantastical programme will take you to a magical swan lake, to a Faustian drama, and… to a graveyard that comes alive in the dead of night.

Provocative, dramatic and full of lyrical beauty, Henryk Wieniawski’s Fantaisie brillante is a violin player’s favourite. No better introduction imaginable, then, for the new artist-in-residence: Bomsori Kim. This evening she will demonstrate her technical skills and sense of drama, for the first time together with the new chief conductor, Jun Märkl. But first the dead emerge from their graves for a devilish dance in Saint-Saëns’s Danse macabre. The festive evening concludes with a completely different, romantic kind of dance: Swan Lake. Tchaikovsky’s brilliant orchestration evokes the emotions, tension and enchantment of this famous ballet.
