An afternoon full of groundbreaking music: Adams, Jeths, Kortekaas and Stravinsky’s revolutionary Rite of Spring. Classic, contemporary, and ecstatic.

Programme

Adams Short Ride in a Fast Machine
Jeths Pianoconcert
Kortekaas Prelude L’Élue (The Chosen One)
Stravinsky Le Sacre du printemps

Antony Hermus, guest conductor and intimate friend of the Residentie Orkest, returns to The Hague for a spectacular programme that explores the limits of the symphonic repertoire. The concert begins with John Adams’s Short Ride in a Fast Machine, a thrilling, breathtaking ride in a dangerously fast sports car where brass and percussion whip up the speed and the tension. Next is Willem Jeths’s brand-new Piano Concerto, composed for the Residentie Orkest and pianist Ellen Corver. With this work, Jeths proves yet again why he is considered the godfather of Dutch composers.

Cloakroom and drink
Cloakroom and an intermission drink are included. If the event does not have an intermission, you will receive the drink afterwards.

Bram Kortekaas composed L’Élue (The Chosen One) as a prelude to Stravinksy’s The Rite of Spring. In this piece, Kortekaas explores the inner world of a young woman at the centre of a heathen springtime ritual. The concert culminates in the masterpiece of Stravinsky himself, The Rite of Spring, in which the story of spring, sacrifice and ecstasy are brought to life as an overwhelming world of sound. Truly one of those pieces that everyone should experience live at least once in their lives!
